Akshaya Tritiya Sales Believed To Be Up From Last Year

That gain was not only in terms of receipts but also in terms of volume. In rupee terms, estimates centered upon a 35-40% increase over last year's festival. In volume terms, pan-Indian sales were estimated to have gone up by about 20%.
"We have received positive feedback from across the country. The business was much better than last year and the sentiment was quite positive," World Gold Council's head, Marketing and Development, Madhumita Dutta told PTI...

Echoing the view, The All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation Chairman Bachhraj Bamalwa said this year the sales were much higher and even unconventional markets like the eastern region also did good business on Akshaya Tritiya.

There were worries that volume would decline because of higher prices, but those worries proved to be unfounded.
