"Below Spot" Means Trouble

In Lodi, California, a woman was scammed by two Hispanic men who offered her a bar of what was purported to be gold but was actually gold-plated metal. She bought it for $1,000, and found out it was fake when she tried to sell it.

The size of the bar wasn't mentioned in the story, but I presume it was ounce size. This scam shows that buying what appears to be gold below spot is really risky. Chances are, the gold is fake.
